Comparing muscle activation in virtual reality and normal environment while training different types of table tennis strokes

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá komparací aktivace vybraných svalů během úderů stolního tenisu ve virtuální i normální realitě. Cílem práce bylo zjistit, zdali se svaly do úderů hraných ve virtuální realitě zapojují stejnou měrou, jako při hraní běžného stolního tenisu. Měření probíhalo pomocí povrchové EMG, přístrojů VR a robota pro nahazování míčků. Jako probandy jsme zvolili skupinu 10 hráčů stolního tenisu na výkonnostní úrovni. Z výzkumného šetření byl zjištěn statisticky významný rozdíl u námi zvolených svalů hrající horní končetiny ve virtuální realitě, kdy je průměrně vykonávaná statisticky menší práce nežli u svalů během reálného stolního tenisu. Domníváme se, že virtuální prostředí by v tuto chvíli mohlo sloužit především pro začínající hráče, avšak je zapotřebí dalších studií, které by potvrdily stejný průběh úderu v obou realitách, a tedy správné zvládnutí techniky úderu

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the comparison of the activation of selected muscles during table tennis strokes in virtual and normal reality. The aim of the work was to find out whether the muscles are involved in strokes played in virtual reality in the same way as when playing regular table tennis. Measurements were carried out using surface EMG, VR devices and a balloon-throwing robot. As probands, we chose a group of 10 table tennis players at the high performance level. From the research, a statistically significant difference was found in the muscles we selected playing the upper limbs in virtual reality, when on average statistically less work is performed than in the muscles during real table tennis. We believe that the virtual environment could serve primarily for novice players at the moment, but further studies are needed to confirm the same course of the stroke in both realities, and therefore the correct mastery of the technique of the stroke.
