Analysis of the Development of Credit Unions in the Czech Republic for the Periods 1920-1948 and 1990-2008

Abstract:

Původním principem kampeliček bylo vzájemné financování „od souseda k sousedovi“. Oboustranně sdílená důvěra byla jedním ze základních principů. Peněžní družstevnictví se dále opíralo o hodnoty, jako jsou solidarita a racionalita a jiné. Bujarý rozkvět této oblasti ekonomiky za první Československé republiky, byl v Čechách a na Moravě v padesátých letech minulého století násilně ukončen. Znovuzrození proběhlo v devadesátých letech, i přes diskuze o jejich konkurenceschopnosti na rozvíjejícím se finančním trhu. Ve své práci jsem se zabýval analýzou vývoje kampeliček u nás, a to především aspektů týkajících se legislativy, dohledu a jejich poslání.

Abstract:

The original principle of credit unions was mutual financing “from neighbour to neighbour”. The base of the financial co-operation consisted in full confidence between both parties. Other essential values of this co-operative monetary system were solidarity, rationality etc. An enormous boom of this economic sphere in the 1st Czechoslovak Republic was violently interrupted in Bohemia and Moravia in the 1950s. The rebirth came in the 1990s, even though there were many discussions about their competitive advantage on the quickly developing financial market. In my thesis, I deal with the analysis of their evolution in our country, focusing on the respective legislation, supervision and their mission.
