Abstract:

This thesis deals with the portrayal of Native Americans in the TV series Reservation Dogs. Since Native American communities have strong historical and cultural ties, the influence of modern cultures is being minimized yet inevitable. The theoretical part explores the Native approach to life, culture, and traditions. Next, it delves into the theme of stereotypes and myths, which are closely related to the portrayal of Native Americans. The thesis further analyzes individual episodes and compares the current form of Native life with the traditional form. Furthermore, the thesis explores the issues Native Americans face in real life and the TV series. For this purpose, the thesis also studies the phenomena of environmental justice. The TV series Reservation Dogs, filmed between 2021 and 2023, provides up-to-date material for analysis, which tends to shed light on the authentic portrayal of today's communities.

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá zobrazením původních Američanů v televizním seriálu Reservation Dogs. Vzhledem k tomu, že indiánské komunity mají silné historické a kulturní vazby, je vliv moderních kultur minimalizován, avšak nevyhnutelný. Teoretická část zkoumá přístup původních Američanů k životu, kultuře a tradicím. Dále se zabývá tématem stereotypů a mýtů, které úzce souvisejí s vyobrazením původních obyvatel Ameriky. Práce dále analyzuje jednotlivé epizody a porovnává současnou podobu života původních Američanů s jeho tradiční podobou. Dále práce rozebírá problémy, se kterými se původní obyvatelé Ameriky potýkají v reálném životě a v televizním seriálu. Za tímto účelem práce zkoumá také fenomén environmentální spravedlnosti. Televizní seriál Reservation Dogs, natáčený v letech 2021 až 2023, poskytuje aktuální materiál pro analytickou část, která se snaží poukázat na autentické zobrazení dnešních komunit.
