Nursing student´s attitude toward care of dying patients

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem výzkumu bylo zjistit postoje studentů ošetřovatelství k péči o umírající pacienty. V dílčích cílech jsme zjišťovali, zda existuje rozdíl v postoji studentů ošetřovatelství k péči o umírající pacienty na základě formy studia, výši ročníku studenta, úvazku v rámci práce, délky zaměstnání ve zdravotnictví, věku studenta pracujícího ve zdravotnictví. Metodika: Kvantitativní výzkum probíhal ve vybraném zařízení od dubnu do června roku 2019. Výzkumu se zúčastnilo 101 respondentů studující obor Všeobecná sestra vybrané univerzity. K výzkumu byl použit dotazník FATCOD (Frommelt Attitude Toward Care Of Dying). Výsledky: Pomocí kvantitativního výzkumu jsme zjistili, že studenti kombinované formy sice dosáhli vyššího skóre tudíž pozitivnějšího přístupu k umírajícím, než studenti prezenční formy, ale rozdíl nebyl statisticky významný. Dále jsme zjistili, že na základě stupně ročníku je zvyšující se trend v celkovém skóre (pozitivnějším přístupu), ale rozdíl nebyl statisticky významný. Statisticky významný rozdíl byl zjištěn na základě úvazku. Studenti s plným či částečným úvazkem měli vyšší hodnoty (pozitivnější přístup) než studenti pracující brigádně nebo nepracující. Statisticky nevýznamný rozdíl byl zjištěn u délky zaměstnání ve zdravotnictví a taktéž u věku studenta pracujícího ve zdravotnictví. Závěr: Péče o umírající pacienty je velmi důležitou součástí ošetřovatelské péče, netýká se jen paliativní péče, proto by vzdělávání zabývající se tímto tématem mělo mít vzrůstající charakter. Abstract:

Aim: The aim of the research was to find out the attitudes of nursing students toward care of dying patients. In the partial goals we investigated if there is a difference in attitude of nursing students to care of dying patients based on the form of study, level of student year, workload, length of employment in health care, age of student working in health care. Methodology: Quantitative research took place in the selected institution from April to June 2019. The research was attended by 101 studying specialization general nurse of the selected university. The questionare FATCOD (Frommelt Attitude Toward Care Of Dying) was used for the research. Results: Using quantitative research, we found out that although the combined form students achieved a higher score that mean more positive attitude than the full-time form tudents, the difference was not statistically significant. Furthermore we found that based on the grade level, there was increasing trend in the overal score (more positive attitude), but the difference was not stacistically significant. A statistically significant difference was found on a per-time basis. Full-time or part-time students had higher values than part-time students or non-working students. A statistically insignificant difference was found in the length of employment in healthcare and in the age student working in healthcare. Conclusion: Care of the dying patients is very important part of the nursing care it is not just about palliative care, so education on this topic should have increasing character.
