Cílem bakalářské práce je nastínit možné výklady metafory tavícího kotle a stanovit, zda jde o mýtus nebo realitu. První kapitola se zabývá vznikem metafory a její historií. Druhá kapitola se zaměřuje na imigranty a jejich přijetí v Americe. Třetí kapitola pojednává o popularitě a dvojznačnosti této metafory a vysvětluje, proč je vnímána jako symbol asimilace. Abstract:
The aim of thesis is to outline possible interpretations of the metaphor of melting pot and decide if it is a myth or reality. The first chapter deals with the emergence of the metaphor and its history. The second chapter focuses on reception of immigrants in America. The third chapter discusses the popularity and ambiguity of the metaphor and explains why it is viewed as a symbol of assimilation. …more
