MOOC: a Perspective of experienced learners

Abstract:

V diplomové práci s názvem „MOOC pohledem jeho absolventů“, je zkoumán fenomén, od kterého mnozí očekávali redefinování terciárního vzdělávání. Od vývoje tohoto vzdělávacího fenoménu nás dělí více než pět let a můžeme s jistotou říci, že MOOCs měly na globální vysokoškolské studium menší dopad, než bylo očekáváno a v českém kontextu nebyly téměř zaznamenány. Práce se v teoretické části věnuje deskripci tohoto moderního typu vzdělávání jak z technologické perspektivy, tak pohledem vzdělávací politiky. Neopomíná historický kontext, ani predikce. Věnuje se také současným pozitivům a negativům tohoto fenoménu, postojům vzdělávacích subjektů vůči němu, ale také motivaci samotných uživatelů k jeho studiu. Druhá část práce je zaměřena empiricky. Popisuje a vysvětluje, jakým způsobem uživatelé MOOC vnímají. Čím jsou charakterističtí, jaké benefity jim tato forma vzdělávání přináší, kde naopak vidí slabiny a jak může jejich perspektiva obohatit danou problematiku. Tato část obsahuje také metodologii, včetně popisu analýzy dat, intepretace výsledků a diskuze.

Abstract:

In this diploma thesis “MOOC in the perspective of its graduates” is researched the phenomenon, from which was expected redefining of tertiary educational system. It has passed more than five years since MOOC has been developed and we can claim with certainty that it has had lower impact on a global university system than it was expected. Furthermore it has not even been recognized in the context of Czech Republic. Theoretical part of the thesis focuses on description of this modern type of education, both from technological and educational politics. The historical context and predictions are comprised as well. In the theoretical part, there is also focus on mentioning contemporary positive and negative impacts of MOOC, attitudes of educational subjects towards this phenomenon and motivation of its users. Second part of the thesis is empirical. It describes and explains, how the MOOC is perceived by its users. What benefits for users it has, what are the characteristics of the users, what they appreciate about MOOC, what are the weaknesses according to them. Furthermore how their perspective can develop this issue. This part contains the methodology, as well as the description of the data analysis, interpretation of the results and a discussion.
