Abstract:

Bakalářská diplomová práce „Fragmentární paralelnost filmu Ať žije republika“ využívá myšlenek neoformalismu k analýze československého širokoúhlého filmu Ať žije republika (1965), jednoho ze třinácti filmů, který v 60. letech vznikl na základě spolupráce scenáristy a režiséra Karla Kachyni a scenáristy a spisovatele Jana Procházky. V rámci státní kinematografie to byl pokus o neobvyklý válečný velkofilm, žánrově zařaditelný jako psychologické drama. Pro jeho syžet je typické prolínání několika rovin příběhu. Příběh malého chlapce, jenž předčasně dospívá během třech posledních dnů druhé světové války na malé moravské vesnici, mnohokrát přerušují jeho vzpomínky, představy a sny. Vzpomínky, představy a sny jsou paralelami k aktuálním událostem a jsou to vlastně fragmenty ze života tohoto chlapce i jeho rodné vesnice. Styl filmu napomáhá mnoha prostředky divákovi pochopit, kterou rovinu příběhu sleduje: systematicky k tomu například využívá nediegetického zvuku. Film je rovněž svědectvím o snahách reformních komunistů, kteří se zdroj problémů československé společnosti 60. let pokoušeli nalézt v nedávné historii svého státu. Nevelký domácí úspěch filmu Ať žije republika byl do určité míry vynahrazen jeho úspěchem na zahraničních festivalech. V 70. a 80. letech nebyl v československých kinech promítán. Jeho existenci pak od 90. let, kdy mohl být opět promítán a byl uveden i v televizi a vydán na dvd, zastínily mimo jiné populárnější filmy, které ze spolupráce Karla Kachyni a Jana Procházky vznikly.

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis "Fragmentary parallelism of the film Ať žije republika" uses ideas of neoformalism to analyze Czechoslovak wide-screen movie Ať žije republika (Long Live the Republic, 1965), one of the thirteen films, which originated in the 60's from the collaboration of screenwriter and director Karel Kachyňa, and screenwriter and writer Jan Procházka. Within the state's film industry, it was an attempt to make an unusual war epic, genre-holed as a psychological drama. For its plot is typical overlapping of several layers of the story. The story of a young boy who ripens prematurely during the three days of the Second World War in a small Moravian village, is often interrupted by his memories, imagination and dreams. Memories, ideas and dreams are in fact parallels to current events and are actually fragments of the life of this boy and his native village. Style of the film helps the viewer understand which layer of the story is being watched: e.g. it systematically uses nondiegetic sound to achieve that. The film is also a testament to the efforts of reform communists who attempted to find the roots of the Czechoslovak society problems of the 60's in the recent history of the country. A small home success of the film Ať žije republika was to some extent compensated by its success at international festivals. However, it was not screened in the Czechoslovak cinemas in the 70's and 80's. Later in the 90's, when it could be screened again and was on television and released on DVD, its existence was eventually overshadowed i.a. by more popular films which originated from the collaboration of Karel Kachyňa and Jan Procházka.
