Comparison of the use of different starter diets in the nutrition of dairy calves during milk nutrition period

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá porovnáním vlivu různých typů startérových směsí na hmotnostní přírůstky telat českého strakatého skotu v období mléčné výživy, tj. do 60. dne života. Do krmného pokusu byla zařazena telata českého strakatého skotu (n=20), která byla rozdělena do dvou skupin po 10 telatech. Skupiny byly vytvářeny vyrovnaně podle zastoupení pohlaví. Telata byla ustájena ve venkovních individuálních boxech po celou dobu pokusu, aby byla možná individuální evidence. Do 4. dne věku byla krmena mlezivem, poté mléčnou krmnou směsí až do věku 60 dní. Od 3. dne byly skupinám předkládány startérové směsi o rozdílné fyzikální struktuře. Skupině A byl předkládán po celé období krmného pokusu granulovaný startér ČOT, skupině B do 16 dní věku müsli startér Premiumstart a od 17. dne věku slamnatý startér Goldstart. Ve třech intervalech (15. – 21. den, 29. – 35. den a 50. – 56. den) byla sledována spotřeba startérových směsí. Při 1. intervalu byla spotřeba u obou skupin vyrovnaná, od 2. intervalu byla statisticky průkazně vyšší spotřeba startérové směsi u skupiny B a tento trend pokračoval do konce sledování. Pro sledování hmotnostních přírůstků probíhalo 3krát vážení, po narození, 35. den a 60. den. Rozdíly v denních přírůstcích mezi skupinami nebyly statisticky významné. Byl zde ale mírný trend ve vyšším přírůstku telat ve skupině B. Absolutní hmotnost telat ze skupiny B byla při 3. vážení statisticky průkazně vyšší. Zdravotní stav telat byl vyhodnocen podle výskytu průjmů v obou skupinách, nižší výskyt byl zaznamenán u skupiny B. Ekonomické zhodnocení ukázalo, že granulovaný startér ČOT je levnější variantou, především díky nižší spotřebě startéru oproti skupině B, kde však telata dosáhla vyšší hmotnosti a měla menší výskyt průjmů.

Abstract:

The thesis is focused on comparison of the effect of different types of starter on the weight gain of Czech Fleckvieh calves in the period of milk feeding, i.e. until the 60th day of life. In the feeding experiment, the Czech Fleckvieh calves (n=20) were divided into two groups of 10 calves each. The groups were balanced by gender. Calves were housed in individual outdoor boxes throughout the experiment to allow individual recording of the feed intake. They were fed colostrum up to 4 days of age, then a milk replacer until 60 days of age. From day 3 onwards, groups were presented with starters of different physical texture. Group A was presented with complete pelleted starter ČOT throughout the whole feeding trial, group B with muesli starter Premiumstart until 16 days of age and from 17 days of age with starter Goldstart containing chopped straw. The consumption of starters was monitored at three intervals (day 15-21, day 29-35 and day 50-56). In the 1st interval, consumption was balanced between the two groups; from the 2nd interval onwards, there was a statistically significantly higher consumption of starter mixture in group B and this trend continued until the end of the experiment. To monitor weight gain, weighing was done 3 times, after birth, on day 35 and on day 60. Differences in daily gains between groups were not statistically significant. However, there was a slight trend towards higher daily weight gain in group B. The absolute weight of Group B calves was statistically significantly higher at the 3rd weighing. The health of calves was evaluated according to the incidence of diarrhea in both groups, with a lower incidence in group B. The economic evaluation showed that pelleted starter ČOT was the cheaper option, mainly due to lower starter consumption compared to group B, where calves reached a higher weight and had a lower incidence of diarrhea.
