Cost of illness of spinal muscular atrophy

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřena na výzkum nákladů spojených s onemocněním spinální muskulární atrofie. Pomocí dotazníkového šetření je proveden sběr informací od jednotlivých respondentů, kteří se do výzkumu zapojili pomocí výzvy pacientské organizace SMÁci, která sdružuje pacienty s tímto onemocněním. Výzkum se dotazuje na přímé zdravotní, přímé nezdravotní a nepřímé náklady vznikající v souvislosti s onemocněním. Na základě vytvořeného metodického rámce a prvotní rešerše ohledně managementu onemocnění jsou data následně interpretována dle předem vytyčených cílů výzkumu. Výsledky výzkumu mohou u široké veřejnosti pomoci porozumět finanční náročnosti onemocnění a následně i vyvolat diskuzi v odborných kruzích.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on research of the costs associated with the spinal muscular atrophy disease. Having used a questionnaire survey, information has been collected from individual respondents who participated in the research by means of an appeal made by the patient organization called “SMÁci” which brings together patients facing this disease. The survey asks them about the direct medical, direct non-medical and indirect costs of the disease. Then, based on the established methodological framework and initial research on disease management, the collected figures are being interpreted according to the predefined research objectives. The results of the carried out research can be of the assistance to the general public in understanding the financial burden aspects of the disease and subsequently generate intensive long-lasting discussion among the professionals.
