The comparison of the occurrence of Anglicisms in Czech and German texts in the sphere of newspaper sport reports

Abstract:

The present master thesis deals with an analysis of anglicisms in Czech and German sport reports. Its main aim is a statistic and content comparison between the two languages. In other words, this work tries to find out if the English lexicon influences the Czech lexicon like the German one. Besides the analytical part, it also provides a theoretical introduction necessary for the following analysis. To accomplish this goal, a synchronous method of analysis of several consecutive issues of Czech and German sport magazines from September 2009 was used. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part, a theoretical one, reviews the history of English contacts with Czech and German, defines the basic terminology, such as loanword, anglicism, internationalism and neologism. Further, it describes the ways of integration of anglicisms into Czech and German from the orthographical, morphological and phonological point of view, and acquaints the reader with the primary literature. The practical part describes the method as used in the analysis and classifies the excerpted anglicisms according to the selected criteria: their frequency of occurrence and distribution, parts of speech, word-formation and existence of their corresponding equivalents.

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá analýzou anglicismů v českých a německých sportovních zprávách. Jejím hlavním úkolem je jejich statistické a obsahové srovnání mezi oběma jazyky. Jinými slovy, tato práce se snaží zjistit, zda anglická slovní zásoba ovlivňuje českou slovní zásobu podobně jako německou. Kromě analytické části práce poskytuje také teoretický úvod nezbytný pro následující analýzu. K dosažení tohoto cíle byla použita synchronní metoda analýzy několika po sobě jdoucích čísel českých a německých sportovních časopisů ze září roku 2009. Práce je rozdělena do dvou částí. První část, teoretická, zkoumá historii kontaktu angličtiny s češtinou a němčinou, vymezuje základní terminologii jako například přejaté slovo, anglicismus, internacionalismus a neologismus. Dále popisuje způsoby integrace anglicismů do češtiny a němčiny podle ortografického, morfologického a fonologického hlediska, a seznamuje čtenáře s primární literaturou. Praktická část popisuje použitou metodu analýzy a klasifikuje excerpované anglicismy podle zvolených kritérií: jejich frekvence výskytu a rozložení, slovních druhů, slovotvorby a existence odpovídajících ekvivalentů.
