Variability of regional seed mixtures in Bíle Karpaty Mts. collected by brush harvester

Abstract:

Luční porosty Bílých Karpat jsou celosvětově unikátní díky své velké druhové pestrosti. Český svaz ochránců přírody Bílé Karpaty se snaží obnovit druhově bohaté louky pomocí regionální směsi osiv získávané strojovým sběrem v místních zachovalých lučních porostech, která je alternativou ke komerčním kulturním osevním směsím. Cílem bakalářské práce bylo porovnat kvalitu sbíraného osiva na dvou lokalitách, zjistit, jaké druhy přítomné ve společenstvu se objevují také v osivu, a nastavit metodiku sběru a analýzy semen. Osivo bylo sbíráno kartáčovým sklízečem ve dvou zvláště chráněných územích Čertoryje a Zahrady pod Hájem. Z osiva z šesti menších trvalých ploch a přilehlých větších ploch, byly odebrány vzorky semen, které byly následně roztřízeny zváženy, určeny a spočítány. Pro charakteristiku vegetace a porovnání druhového složení na trvalých plochách s osivem byl pořízen fytocenologický snímek a celkový floristický soupis druhů s jednoduchým popisem jejich fenologie. V práci bylo zjištěno, že aktuální společenstva, ve kterých byly vytvořeny trvalé plochy dobře reprezentují vegetaci obou rezervací doloženou historickými snímky, ale jejich celkovou variabilitu zachycují pouze částečně. Obě porovnávané lokality se lišily v množství nakartáčovaného osiva, v druhovém složení a poměru počtu travinných a bylinných druhů, a to jak ve floristických soupisech, tak i v roztřízených vzorcích semen. Kartáčový sklízeč je schopen sklidit semena až 78 % nalezených druhů v trvalé ploše a až 90 % plodných či potenciálně plodných druhů. Bylo zjištěno, že složení osiva z trvalých ploch se přibližuje druhovému složení osiva z ploch, na kterých proběhla provozní sklizeň. Výsledky dále ukazují, že cena, za kterou se sklizené osivo prodává, je nižší než jeho skutečná hodnota. Práce navrhuje srovnávací metodiku sběru osiva v závislosti na druhovém složení vegetace aplikovatelnou na různých lokalitách v rámci celé České republiky.

Abstract:

The grasslands of the White Carpathians are globally unique due to their high species diversity. The Czech Union for Nature Conservation in the White Carpathians is trying to restore species-rich meadows using a regional seed mix obtained by machine collection from local preserved meadow communities, which is an alternative to commercial cultural seed mixes. The aim of the bachelor thesis was to compare the quality of collected seeds at two sites, identify which species present in the community also appear in the seed samples, and establish a methodology for seed collection and analysis. Seeds were collected using a brush harvester in two specially protected areas, Čertoryje and Zahrady pod Hájem. Seed samples were taken from the seeds collected from six smaller permanent plots and adjacent larger plots which were harvested in the conventional way. These samples were subsequently sorted, weighed, identified, and counted. A phytocenological relevés was taken to characterize the vegetation and compare the species composition on the permanent plots with the seed samples, along with a general floristic inventory of the species with a simple description of their phenology. The thesis revealed that the current vegetation communities, in which the permanent plots were created, sufficiently represent the vegetation of both reserves documented by historical phytocenological relevés, but their overall variability is only partially captured. Both compared locations differed in the amount of harvested seed, species composition, and the ratio of grass and herb species, both in floristic inventories and in sorted seed samples. The brush harvester is capable of harvesting up to 78% of the species found in the permanent plot and up to 90% of the fertile or potentially fertile species. It has been shown that the composition of seed from permanent plots approximates the species composition of seed from areas where operational harvesting took place. Furthermore, the results indicate that the price at which harvested seed is sold is lower than its actual value. The study proposes a comparative methodology for seed collection based on the species composition of vegetation applicable to various locations throughout the Czech Republic.
