Nutrition Following Joint Replacement

Abstract:

Nutriční potřeby pacienta na ortopedickém oddělení jsou často opomíjenou složkou péče. Je nutné si uvědomit negativní dopady dlouhého hladovění na pooperační stav pacienta, které prodlužují hospitalizaci a mohou mít vliv na hojení ran. V bakalářské práci se zaměřuji na problematiku nutričních potřeb pacientů před plánovanou ortopedickou operací. Cílem této práce bylo zjistit, zda jsou pacienti spokojeni s perioperační výživou. Empirická část je zaměřena na průzkum. Probíhal formou dotazníku na ortopedickém oddělení. Na základě průzkumu bylo prokázáno, že posledním jídlem před operací je polévka den před výkonem, ale pocit hladu pacienti nemají. Dále byla prokázána nízká informovanost pacientů o sacharidovém nápoji a možnosti jeho využití. Nutriční potřeby pacienta by neměly být opomíjeny v žádném zařízení. Stravování pacientů by mělo být v souvislosti s komplikacemi které mohou nastat přehodnoceno a pacient by měl být informován o alternativních možnostech stravy.

Abstract:

The nutritional needs of the patient in the orthopaedic ward are an often neglected component of care. It is important to recognize the negative effects of prolonged fasting on the patient's postoperative condition, which prolongs hospitalization and may affect wound healing. In my bachelor thesis I focus on the issue of nutritional needs of patients before elective orthopaedic surgery. The aim of this thesis was to determine whether patients are satisfied with their perioperative nutrition. The empirical part focuses on a survey. It was conducted in the form of a questionnaire in the orthopaedic department. Based on the survey, it was shown that the last meal before surgery is soup the day before surgery, but patients do not feel hungry. Furthermore, it was shown that there was low awareness of patients about carbohydrate drink and the possibility of its use. Nutritional needs of the patient should not be neglected in any facility. Patients' diets should be reassessed in the context of complications that may arise and the patient should be informed of alternative dietary options.
