Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to investigate an authentic economic text by using the system of analysis based on the study of lexical cohesion. The methodology referred to as lexical patterning was developed by linguist Michael Hoey, and described in more detail in his book Patterns of Lexis in Text (1991). The analysis allows users to reveal the way by which cohesive features, in this case lexis, organize text. Moreover, it introduces a framework which is suitable for generating readable abridgements and summaries out of research articles. The thesis is aimed at applying and testing this framework in order to confirm applicability of Hoey?s methodology to economic texts.

Tato bakalářská práce si klade za cíl prozkoumat autentický ekonomický text, a to za použití analýzy založené na studiu lexikální koheze. Metodologie, jejímž autorem je lingvista Michael Hoey, je podrobně popsána v knize Patterns of Lexis in Text (1991). Analýza umožňuje zjistit, jakým způsobem lexikální koheze dotváří text do jednotného, organického celku, a navíc představuje rámec, s jehož pomocí lze vytvářet stručné a zároveň smysluplné výtahy z odborných textů. Úkolem této bakalářské práce je použít Hoeyho metodu k otestování článku z časopisu zaměřeného na ekonomii a zjistit tak, jaká je její použitelnost pro tento typ textu.
