The Future of Taiwan from the Perspective of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan: Political Activity of the Church on Online Domains

Abstract:

Práce se odvíjí od politické situace v říjnu 2018, kdy se obyvatelé Taiwanu aktivně zapojovali do protestů, týkající se otázky budoucího směřování Taiwanu. V období těchto protestů a následně i po nich se k problematice začala vyjadřovat i Presbyteriánská církev na Taiwanu (PCT). Konkrétním cílem bakalářské práce bylo určit jaký diskurz vytváří PCT k budoucímu směřování Taiwanu pomocí autentických příspěvků na oficiálních webových a facebookových stránkách. Z analýzy článků vyplynulo, jaké strategie PCT využívala ve svých sdílených příspěvcích v rámci budoucího směřování Taiwanu. Práce poukazuje na skutečnost, že PCT svou snahu o lepší budoucnost Taiwanu neustále podněcuje svou vírou. Odkazuje se na svá prohlášení z minulých let a klade důraz na koncept „nové a nezávislé země“. Podle PCT, Taiwan bude i nadále bránit svou demokracii. Obyvatelé Taiwanu by měli podporovat křesťany, jelikož ti se bezvýhradně snaží o lepší budoucnost celého Taiwanu a o lepší život obyvatel Taiwanu.

Abstract:

This thesis is based on the political situation in October 2018, when Taiwanese people were actively engaged in protests about the future of Taiwan. The Presbyterian Church in Taiwan (PCT) during these protests and then afterwards also began to comment on this issue. The aim of the bachelor thesis was to determine what discourse PCT creates concerning the future direction of Taiwan while analyzing the authentic contributions on official Facebook and PCT websites. The article analysis revealed what strategies PCT used in its shared contributions to future of Taiwan. The thesis shows the fact that PCT is constantly inciting its commitment to a better future for Taiwan with its faith. PCT refers to its past statements and emphasizes the concept of a “new and independent country”. According to PCT, Taiwan will continue to defend its democracy. Taiwanese people should support Christians, as they unreservedly seek a better future for Taiwan and a better life for Taiwanese people.
