Montmorillonite separation from bentonite by chemical methods

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá separací montmorillonitu z bentonitu chemickými metodami. Metodami chemického rozpouštění je možné odstranit uhličitany, oxidy železa a příp. organické látky. Bylo zjištěno, že tato metoda dosahuje velmi dobrých výsledků při odstraňování uhličitanů, upravený materiál totiž žádné neobsahoval. Dále však bylo zjištěno, že chemické čištění napadá strukturu původního materiálu, na což lze usuzovat ze stanovovaných hodnot kationtově výměnné kapacity a množství aktivního montmorillonitu stanoveného sorpcí methylenové modři.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with separation of montmorillonite from bentonite by chemical methods. Carbonates, iron oxides or organic matter can be removed by methods of chemical dissolution. It was found that this method achieves very good results in removing of carbonates, as the treated material did not contain any carbonates. Furthermore, it was found that the chemical purification attacked the structure of the original material, which can be suggested from the determined values of cation-exchange capacity and the amount of active montmorillonite determined by sorption of methylene blue.
