The aim of this thesis is to study a grammatical gender of neologisms in European and Brazilian Portuguese, and to find out which sociolinguistic factors affect its use. In the theoretical part of the thesis the terms neologism, neology and grammatical gender are defined. Cieľom tejto diplomovej práce je skúmanie členu neologizmov v európskej a brazílskej portugalčine, a zistenie, ktoré sociolingvistické faktory majú vplyv na jeho použitie. V teoretickej časti práce sú definované pojmy neologizmus, neológia a v neposlednom rade aj gramatický rod.
