Anotace:

Disertační práce Climate Denial and the Construction of Parallel Realities se zaměřuje na přetrvávající rozpor mezi částí veřejné debaty a poznatky klimatické vědy. Sleduje historický vývoj tohoto konfliktu a popisuje důvody, které brání jeho překonání. Dochází k závěru, že se jedná o důsledek odlišných operačních logik jednotlivých aktérů a s nimi souvisejících rozdílných epistemických režimů, jež upřednostňují odlišná kritéria při poznávání světa. Výsledkem je vznik odlišných, sdílených a žitých realit, v nichž se jednotliví aktéři a sociální skupiny orientují a jednají. Práce shrnuje dosavadní empirický výzkum popírání změny klimatu a přináší novou teoretickou reflexi, která se opírá o syntézu vybraných příspěvků ze současné sociální teorie, kognitivních věd teorie organizací.

Abstract:

The dissertation Climate Denial and the Construction of Parallel Realities focuses on the persistent discrepancy between part of the public debate and the findings of climate science. It traces the historical development of this conflict and describes the reasons that hinder its resolution. It concludes that this discrepancy is a consequence of the differing operational logics of particular actors and the related epistemic regimes that privilege different criteria in the process of knowing the world. The result is the emergence of distinct, shared, and lived realities within which actors and social groups orient themselves and act. The dissertation summarizes the existing empirical research on climate change denial and offers a new theoretical reflection grounded in a synthesis of selected contributions from contemporary social theory, cognitive science, and organization theory.
