The Equestrian Monument in the European Cultural Tradition

Abstract:

Práce mapuje vývoj jezdeckého pomníku v průběhu téměř dvou tisíciletí, od antiky do konce 19. století. Odhaluje tak sochařské téma, které vytvořilo velkolepá díla v rozsáhlém spektru stylů. Skrze práce vybraných umělců je interpretována funkce, význam, podoba a umístění jezdeckého pomníku. Současně je věnována pozornost i podobě a symbolice koně ve výtvarném umění. Cílem práce je charakteristika vlastností jezdeckého pomníku, jež umožní pohlížet na tato díla s větším porozuměním.

Abstract:

This work maps the development of the equestrian monument during almost two millenium, from antiquity until the end of the 19th century. She reveals so sculptural theme, which has created great works of art in a wide range of styles. The function, meaning, appearance and location of the equestrian monument are interpreted through the works of selected artists. At the same time, attention is given to the appearance and symbology of the horse in the plastic art.
