Abstract:

Cílem této práce je komparativní analýza románu F. Scotta Fitzgeralda Velký Gatsby (The Great Gatsby) a jeho dvou filmových adaptací, první z roku 1974 režírovanou Jackem Claytonem a druhou z roku 2013 režírovanou Bazem Luhrmannem. Práce se soustředí na významné změny a vynechávaní ve srovnání s románem, které mají za úkol zdůraznit romantický potenciál příběhu a tak zařadit filmy do systému hollywoodských filmových žánrů.

Abstract:

This thesis provides a comparative analysis of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby and its two film adaptation, directed by Jack Clayton and Baz Luhrmann, focusing on the significant omissions and changes of the plot to accentuate the romantic potential of the story and thus classify the films in Hollywood genre system. Further it tries to examine possible influence of the star quality actors and directors who have been cast in the discussed movies and the promotional campaigns that have accompanied the release of these movies, concerning the genre theory.
