Surface treatment of polymer materials by plasma generated in liquids and in contact with them

Abstract:

V dizertační práci byla studována plazmochemická úprava polymerů pomocí plazmového výboje generovaného v kapalinách anebo při kontaktu s nimi. Ke generaci plazmatu za atmosférického tlaku byly použity různé typy plazmových zdrojů. Dizertační práce se skládá z 5 kapitol a přílohy. Výsledky experimentální práce jsou popsány ve 3 kapitolách. Pomocí diagnostických metod (OES, XPS, SEM, měření kontaktního úhlu, atd.) použitých v experimentech byly sledovány vlastnosti upracovaných vzorků, jakož i stav plazmatu. Bylo ukázáno, že získané plazma mělo poměrně nízkou teplotu a bylo vhodné pro úpravu polymerních materiálů. Kapitola 2 se zabývá úpravou polypropylénu ve formě textilu a vláken pomocí dvou různých pulzních VN generátorů. V kapitole 3 plazmová tryska “kINPen’09” byla použita k depozici vrstev a při kalorimetrických měření. V kapitole 4 je popsána úplně nová konfigurace pro generaci výboje, jeho základní fyzikální vlastnosti a působení tohoto uspořádání výboje na různé polymerní materiály (PTFE a PVC). Bylo zjištěno, že tento výboj lze generovat v různých technologicky zajímavých plynech takřka homogenní difúzní vrstvu plazmatu. Plasma generované z roztoku kyseliny šťavelové vede k výraznému růstu hydrofilních vlastností použitých materiálů, které se s časem nemění.

Abstract:

In the thesis the plasma-chemical treatment of polymers with plasma discharge generated in liquids or in contact with them was studied. To generate atmospheric pressure plasma of different types a various plasma sources were used. The thesis consists of 5 chapters and appendix. Results of the experimental work are described in 3 chapters. Diagnostic methods (OES, XPS, SEM, contact angle measurements etc.) used in experiments monitor properties of treated samples as well as the state of plasma. It was shown that obtained plasma had comparatively low temperature and was suitable for treatment of polymer materials. Chapter 2 deals with the treatment of polypropylene material in textile and fibre forms using two different pulsed HV generators. In Chapter 3 an atmospheric pressure plasma jet “kINPen’09” was used for film deposition and the calorimetric probe measurements. In Chapter 4 a novel configuration, its basic physical properties and effect on different polymer material (PTFE and PVC) using this configuration is described. It was found out that the discharge generate almost diffuse plasma layer in different technologically relevant gases. The plasma generated from the oxalic acid solution leads to the significant increase in hydrophilic effect on the surface of presented materials which remains stable in time.
