Prediction of the development and assessment of the investment potential of Bitcoin

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá komplexní analýzou kryptoměny Bitcoin z pohledu investičního nástroje a jeho možného využití ve veřejné správě. Cílem práce je zhodnotit cenový vývoj Bitcoinu v letech 2009–2025, volatilitu a investiční potenciál ve srovnání s tradičními aktivy, jako jsou akcie. Práce rovněž hodnotí, jak vybrané makroekonomické, technologické a politické události ovlivnily cenu této kryptoměny. Dále je zkoumán teoretický rámec fungování Bitcoinu, blockchainu a principů, jako je proof-of-work. Praktická část se zaměřuje na kvantitativní i kvalitativní analýzy historických dat cenového vývoje Bitcoinu a indexu S&P 500 včetně rizikového profilu a zvláštní pozornost je věnována možnosti využití kryptoměn ve veřejné správě. Z provedených analýz vyplývá, že i přes vysokou volatilitu Bitcoin v dlouhodobém horizontu překonal výkonnost tradičních aktiv a expertní názory potvrzují jeho rostoucí význam v kontextu finančních inovací a digitalizace veřejného sektoru. Výsledkem je ucelený pohled na Bitcoin jako alternativní investiční aktivum a nástroj s potenciálem ovlivnit fungování moderní ekonomiky a státní správy.

Abstract:

This thesis presents a comprehensive analysis of the cryptocurrency Bitcoin from the perspective of an investment instrument and its potential application in public administration. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the price development of Bitcoin between 2009 and 2025, analyze its volatility, and assess its investment potential in comparison with traditional assets such as stocks. The work also examines how selected macroeconomic, technological, and political events have influenced the price of this cryptocurrency. Furthermore, the theoretical framework of Bitcoin’s operation, blockchain technology, and principles such as proof-of-work are explored. The practical part focuses on both quantitative and qualitative analyses of historical price data for Bitcoin and the S&P 500 index, including risk profiling, with special attention given to the potential use of cryptocurrencies in public administration. The analyses show that despite high volatility, Bitcoin has outperformed traditional assets in the long term, and expert opinions confirm its growing significance in the context of financial innovation and digital transformation of the public sector. The result is a comprehensive view of Bitcoin as an alternative investment asset and a tool with the potential to impact the functioning of the modern economy and public governance.
