Defending Women´s Rights in the Age of Enlightenment

Abstract:

Předložená bakalářská práce se zabývá vývojem ženského emancipačního hnutí v období před a v průběhu Velké francouzské revoluce. Představuji několik osobností, které ovlivnily postavení žen ve společnosti, ať už pozitivním nebo negativním způsobem. Cílem práce je zjistit, jestli dvě hlavní představitelky tohoto hnutí - Olympe de Gouges a Mary Wolstonecraft - sehrály zásadní roli pro formování feministického hnutí o půl století později, a zda Velká francouzská revoluce splnila naděje žen v otázce jejich důstojnějšího postavení ve společnosti.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on a development of the women´s emancipation in movement before and during the French Revolution. I present a few names which influenced the position of women in society both in a positive and negative way. The aim of this thesis is to find out whether the two main representatives of this movement - Olympe de Gouges and Marry Wollstonecraft - had played a crucial role in formation of the feminist movement a half century later and whether French Revolution has fulfilled the hopes of women, in regards to the question of their more dignified status in society.
