Detection of SSH Servers on a Computer Network

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá detekcí a následným auditem SSH serverů na počítačové síti. Cílem je implementovat nástroj využívající síťových toků ke zjištění IP adres a portů, na kterých je vedena SSH komunikace. Následně je aktivně navázáno spojení s daným SSH serverem pro účely bezpečnostního auditu. První část bakalářské práce teoreticky popisuje oblasti, které jsou prakticky využity v implementaci nástroje. Implementační detaily jsou popsány ve druhé části práce. Na závěr jsou vyhodnoceny výsledky po nasazení nástroje na testovací síti.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with detection and security auditing of SSH servers on a computer network. The goal is to implement a tool which uses network flows to detect IP addresses and ports with SSH communication. Afterwards, it uses an active connection to the SSH server in order to perform a security audit. The first part of the thesis theoretically describes the areas later used in the implementation of the tool, which is presented in the second part of the thesis. In the end, results from running the tool on a test network are presented.
