Migration crisis in 2015 and 2022 and migration and asylum treaties between the EU and transit countries

Abstract:

V roce 2015 prudce vzrostl počet žadatelů o azyl ve státech Evropské unie. Podobná situace se opakovala i v roce 2022, tato období se souhrnně označují jako migrační krize. Ke vstupu migrantů do Evropské unie jsou využívány tranzitní státy, nejvíce například Turecko, Libye, Srbsko a Evropská unie s nimi komunikuje na základě partnerství, akčních plánů, nebo uzavřených smluv o migraci a azylu. Tato práce se pomocí komparativní analýzy pokusí zjistit, jestli se smlouvy a vztahy s těmito státy změnily po zkušenostech z migrační krize v roce 2015 a jaké jsou, popřípadě byly, rozdíly mezi vybranými zkoumanými tranzitními státy. Práce bude zkoumat data z konkrétních smluv, politických diskuzí, místních médií, či statistik a odborných článků a ukáže, jak se EU a tranzitní státy připravili po zkušenostech na aktuální výzvy a zda je prostor pro další vylepšení těchto bilaterálních vztahů.

Abstract:

In 2015, the number of asylum seekers in EU countries rose sharply. A similar situation repeated itself in 2022; these periods are collectively referred to as the migration crisis. Transit countries, most notably Turkey, Libya and Serbia, are used to bring migrants into the European Union, and the European Union interacts with them on the basis of partnerships, action plans or treaties on migration and asylum. This thesis will try to find out, through a comparative analysis, if the treaties and relations with these states have changed after the experience of the 2015 migration crisis and what are or were the differences between the selected transit states studied. The thesis will examine data from specific treaties, policy discussions, local media or statistics and academic articles to show how the EU and the transit states have prepared for the current challenges after the experience and whether there is room for further improvements in these bilateral relations.
