Reflection of Esotericism in Contemporary Czech Media

Abstract:

Tato práce je zaměřena na soudobý západní esoterismus v rámci České republiky, zvláště pak na esoterismus prezentovaný v médiích, přičemž hlavním cílem je reflektovat a popsat tento specifický typ. V teoretické části se autorka zaměřuje na současné trendy náboženství v moderní západní společnosti, zejména individualizaci, privatizaci, privatizovaný synkretismus atd. V rámci práce je provedena pracovní typologie esoterismu, která má pomoci přiblížit esoterismus tak, jak je chápán v této práci, přičemž se autorka dále zabývá především jedním typem, označeným v této práci jako esoterismus komerční, který přibližuje v praktické části pomocí případové studie pořadu Volejte věštce. Dále autorka pracuje s pojmem „náboženský trh“ a vysvětluje úlohu médií co by distributorů na něm. V praktické části je provedena obsahová analýza pořadu Volejte věštce se zaměřením na charakteristiku volajících a nejfrekventovanějších otázek, zda jsou volajícími spíše ženy či muži a jaký je „typický konzument“ tohoto typu religiozity.

Abstract:

This work is focused on the contemporary Western esotericism in the Czech republic especially esotericism presented in the media, where the main goal is to reflect and describe this specific type. In the theoretical part the author focuses on current trends in religion in the modern Western society especially individualization, privatization, privatized syncretism etc. Within the work there is a working typology of esotericism made which is ment to help to understand esotericism as it is understood by the author for purposes of this work. The author is further focused especially on one type of esotericism, which is refered to as "commercial esotericism" in this work and which is furthermore explained in the practical part using a case study of a TV show "Volejte věštce". The author also works with the conception of "religious market" and explains the role of the media as distributors on it. In the practical part the content analysis of the TV show "Volejte věštce" is made focused on characteristics of callers and most frequently asked questions, if it is mostly male or female domain and who is a "typical consument" of this type of religiosity.
