Monitoring of the health conditions of European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) in selected areas of LS Jeseník

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřená na inventarizaci zdravotního stavu druhu Fagus sylvatica L. (celkem 328 ks s věkem 86 až 93 let) na 3 vybraných lokalitách C, P a Y (ozn. dle edafických kategorií, C = vysýchavá, P = oglejená kyselá, Y = skeletová) lesní správy Jeseník, na základě determinačních znaků patogenů. Terénní šetření na lokalitách proběhlo pochůzkovou metodou v období červen až září 2023. Výsledky práce jsou zjištění přítomnosti tlení, zbytnělých bází, nekróz, korní spály, rakovinných deformací, dutin a trhlin. Přítomnost plodnic dřevních hub (nejpočetnější Hypoxylon fragiforme a Stereum hirsutum), přítomnost hmyzích škůdců (nejpočetnější byla přítomnost defoliátorů a druhu Mikola fagi). Na základě těchto zjištění byla provedena klasifikace zdravotního stavu (nejhorší výsledky byly u lokality P). Dále byla také zjištěna defoliace a s ní spojené aspekty. Současně byl proveden odběr půdních vzorků, u kterých byl ověřen výskyt patogenů rodu Phytophthora spp. Z 18 odběrů půdních vzorků byly potvrzeny druhy Phytophthora cactorum ze vzorků půdy lokality Y a Phytophthora cambivora ze vzorků půdy lokality P.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis is focused on the inventory of the health status of Fagus sylvatica L. (total of 328 tree specimens aged 86 to 93) at 3 selected locations: C, P and Y (marked according to edaphic categories, C= water-deficient, P=acidic gleyed, Y=skeletal) in the Jeseník forest administration, based on defining characteristics of pathogens. The field investigation at the locations was carried out by the errand method in the period from June to September 2023. The results of the work are the detection of the presence of wood decay, enlarged bases, necrosis, sunburn bark, canker deformations, cavities and cracks. The presence of fruiting bodies of wood fungi (most numerous: Hypoxylon fragiforme and Stereum hirsutum were the most numerous) and the presence of insect pests (most numerous: defoliators and Mikola fagi). Health status classification was made based on these findings (the worst results were at location P). Furthermore, defoliation was also detected, along with related aspects. At the same time, soil samples were collected, in which the presence of pathogens of the genus Phytophthora spp. has been verified. From 18 soil samples taken, P. cactorum was confirmed in the soil samples of site Y, and P. cambivora in the soil samples of site P.
