“Pursuing the Truth”: The Neoformalist Analysis of the Film Contact
Abstract:
Tato bakalářská práce je neoformalistickou analýzou filmu Kontakt režiséra Roberta Zemeckise. Cílem analýzy je dokázat tematickou konvenčnost snímku a oponovat tak tvrzení, které Kontakt označuje za „intelektuální blockbuster“. Analýza filmu ukázala, že intelektuální přesah snímku je pouze zdánlivý, a že film je plně poplatný klasickým postupům hollywoodské narace.
Abstract:
This bachelor thesis is a neoformalist analysis of a film Contact directed by Robert Zemeckis. The aim of this study is to prove thematic conventionality of this film and to oppose claims which suggest Contact as an “intellectual blockbuster”. This analysis showed that intellectuality of Contact is only ostensible and thus this film is created in the most classical way of a Hollywood narrative.
