Natural attenuation of contaminants at the waste landfill site surrounding

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis is to describe the process of natural attenuation as passive remediation method. In 1945–1996 Černovice area was used as a waste landfill site for municipal waste, which resulted in the quality of water that is contaminated by organic substances. Despite the recultivation of former landfills, there is still evidence of groundwater contamination by harmful and toxic pollutants from the past , which seriously threaten health and the environment. Reaction-transport modelling was made in programs such as The Biochlor and The Geochemist´s Workbench focusing on chlorinated hydrocarbons and ethylbenzene. In both cases, the natural attenutaion was proved and described in the models.

Abstract:

Diplomová práca sa zameriava na problematiku prirodzenej atenuácie, ako pasívnej sanačnej metódy na území černovických skládok, kde bol v rokoch 1945–1996 ukladaný komunálny odpad a negatívne ovplyvnil kvalitu podzemnej vody. Napriek rekultivácií dodnes nesie známky kontaminácie polutantmi ohrozujúcimi zdravie a ţivotné prostredie. V diplomovej práci bol pomocou modelovania v programoch Biochlor a Geochemist´s Workbench zhodnotený priebeh prirodzenej atenuácie na príkladoch chlórovaných uhľovodíkov a etylbenzénu zo skupiny BTEX. V oboch prípadoch boli vo výsledných reakčne-transportných modeloch preukázané a popísané prítomné atenuačné procesy.
