Design of a Web Application for Fact-checking Support Integrating Functionalities of Artificial Intelligence

Abstract:

V dnešní době se často můžeme setkat s pojmem informační zahlcení. Informační zahlcení znamená přetížení člověka velkým množstvím informací, které jsou pro něj nadbytečné či nerelevantní. Informace mohou však být také přímo nepravdivé a kvůli jejich množství je pro lidi obtížné u každé z nich ověřovat její validitu. Ověřovaní je totiž časově náročné a pracné, a proto vznikl mezinárodní projekt pro EU s názvem CIMPLE, na kterém se aktivně podílí i Vysoká škola ekonomická v Praze. Lidé z VŠE tak spolupracují na vývoji aplikací umělé inteligence, které jsou schopné dohledávat a shlukovat relevantní tvrzení pro ověření, sumarizovat zprávy o ověření tvrzení, dohledávat odborné argumenty a samotné odborníky pro podporu ověřování. Cílem této diplomové práce je vytvořit a otestovat prototyp uživatelského rozhraní s přívětivým UX, které do sebe integruje zmíněné funkcionality umělé inteligence pro podporu fact-checkingu. V práci je postupováno podle metodiky Design Science Research a proces návrh UI vychází také z iterativního designového procesního rámce Design Thinking. Závěr práce připraví vytvořené UI k implementaci do podoby výsledné webové aplikace, které usnadní a zjednoduší práci především samotným fact-checkerům. Uživatelské rozhraní webové aplikace bude přínosem i pro samotný projekt CIMPLE, jehož funkcionality umělé inteligence budou moci být díky implementaci navazující na tuto práci zpřístupněny koncovým uživatelům.

Abstract:

Nowadays, we often come across the concept of information overload. Information overload means overloading a person with a large amount of information that is redundant or irrelevant to him. However, there is also false information, and the great amount of information makes it difficult for people to verify the validity of each one. Verification is very time-consuming and laborious, which is why an international project for the EU called CIMPLE was created. In this project the University of Economics in Prague is actively involved. Thus, people from the VŠE are collaborating to develop artificial intelligence applications that can search and cluster relevant claims for verification, summarise reports on claim verification, track expert arguments and the experts themselves to support verification. The aim of this thesis is to develop and test prototype of a user interface with a friendly UX that integrates the AI functionalities to support fact-checking. The thesis will follow the Design Science Research methodology and the UI design process will also be based on the iterative Design Thinking process framework. The final part of the work will prepare the developed AI for implementation in the form of the final web application, which will make the work easier and simpler especially for the fact-checkers themselves. The user interface of the web application will also benefit the CIMPLE project itself, whose artificial intelligence functionalities will be made available to end users thanks to the implementation following this work.
