Religious services in the Czech prison system

Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce „Duchovenská služba v systému vězeňství České republiky“ se zabývá problematikou duchovenské služby a péče poskytované klientům ve věznici. V teoretické části je nastíněn historický vývoj přístupu křesťanské církve k vězeňství v období rané církve a středověku, v období osvícenství a novověku. Je popsána problematika současného vězeňství po roce 1989 – legislativní východiska, organizační struktura, analyzována funkce trestu odnětí svobody a její důsledky. Jsou nastíněny problémy současného vězeňství. Poskytování duchovenské péče a služby je popsáno z hlediska legislativních východisek a organizační struktury, jsou přiblížena specifika duchovenské služby a péče ve věznici, vyjmenovány činnosti. V praktické části bylo provedeno vlastní šetření. Pro naplnění cíle výzkumu byl zvolen kvalitativní výzkum. Cílem bylo analyzovat poskytování duchovenské služby a péče v konkrétní věznici a zjistit, jaká je situace a prožívání duchovních, kteří službu poskytují a odsouzených ve výkonu trestu odnětí svobody, kteří duchovenskou službu a péči přijímají. Odpovědi na výzkumné otázky byly hledány formou případových studií. Závěr práce tvoří interpretace dat a jejich analýza.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis „The pastoral service of the prison system in the Czech Republic“ deals with the issues of the pastoral service and care that is given to clients in prison. The theoretical part outlines the historical development of the Christian attitude towards prison service in the early Christian period and the Middle Ages, in the period of the Enlightenment and the Modern Age. Next, the prison service issues of the present times after 1989 are described – legislative solutions, the structure of organization. The function and consequences of the prison sentence are also analyzed. The issues of the present prison service are also outlined. The providing of pastoral care and service is described from the point of view of legislative solutions and organization structure. The specificities of the pastoral service and care in prison and its activities are also further described. Own qualitative research is performed in the practical part. The aim was to analyze the pastoral service and care in a certain prison and find out what the situation and experience of the clergymen who give the pastoral service and the convicts who receive the pastoral service is. Answers to the research questions were searched through case studies. The conclusion of this work includes data interpretation and analysis.
