Late motherhood as a phenomenon of today

Abstract:

Diplomová práce pojednává o pozdním mateřství jakožto o fenoménu současnosti a moderním životním stylu. Cílem této práce bylo zmapovat příčiny a okolnosti odkládání mateřství, zjišťovat, jak se ženy vyrovnávaly se společenskými a rodinnými tlaky a také s jejich nastávající úlohou být matkou – tedy jak ony samy vnímají pozdní mateřství. Práce je rozdělena do dvou částí, teoretické a empirické. Teoretická část je zaměřena na pojmy spjaté s pozdním mateřstvím a rodičovstvím. Významná část teorie je věnována motivům pozdního mateřství, příčinám odsouvání mateřství. Další kapitola se dotýká rodiny a měnících se trendů v rodičovství. Empirická část je zaměřena na vlastní kvalitativní výzkum. Výzkumné šetření bylo prováděno formou polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s respondentkami spadajícími do věkové kategorie „starších“ matek. Byly to ženy, které své dítě přivedly na svět ve věku 40let a vyšším. Interpretaci dat jsem provedla aplikací metody zakotvené teorie.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with late motherhood as a phenomenon of the present and a modern lifestyle. The aim of this work was to map the causes and circumstances of postponing motherhood, to find out how women coped with social and family pressures and also with their upcoming role to be a mother – that is, how they themselves perceive late motherhood. The work is divided into two parts, theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part is focused on the concepts associated with late motherhood and parenthood. A significant part of the theory is devoted to the motives of late motherhood, the causes of postponing motherhood. The next chapter deals with the family and changing trends in parenting. The empirical part is focused on own qualitative research. The research was conducted in the form of semi-structured interviews with respondents belonging to the age category of "older" mothers. They were women who gave birth to their children aged 40 and over. I interpreted the data using the grounded theory method.
