Magical Realism and Its Influence on Modern Chinese Literature

Abstract:

V našej práci sa zaoberáme vplyvom magického realizmu na modernú čínsku literatúru. Ako hlavný cieľ práce sme si určili skúmať vplyv magického realizmu na román Krv a mlieko od čínskeho držiteľa Nobelovej ceny za literatúru, Mo Yana. V teoretickej časti práce sa zameriavame na magický realizmus v širšom zmysle, uvádzame jeho charakteristické znaky, umelecké prostriedky, ktoré využíva a v neposlednom rade skúmame aj spoločenský kontext, do ktorého je zasadený. V centre našej pozornosti sa nachádzajú spôsob zobrazovania histórie a spoločnosti, naratívne techniky, práca s časom, používanie symboliky, karnevalizmus a spôsoby skreslenia reality, z čoho vyplýva využívanie ľudových príbehov, mýtov a legiend. V práci sa taktiež snažíme v skratke predstaviť vznik modernej čínskej literatúry a priblížiť Mo Yanov život a tvorbu. V praktickej časti, v ktorej ako primárny zdroj využívame román Krv a mlieko, porovnávame znaky magického realizmu uvedené v teoretickej časti s charakteristickými črtami spomínaného románu.

Abstract:

In our bachelor thesis we focus on the influence of magical realism on modern Chinese literature. The major objective of this thesis is to research the influence of magical realism on the Chinese novel Big Breasts & Wide Hips, written by the Nobel Prize awarded author, Mo Yan. In the theoretical part of our thesis, we research the most important features of magical realism. It means, that we not only deal with artistic techniques, but also with social context of this literary genre. At the center of our attention are the way how the authors describe history, time and society, using of narrative techniques, symbolism, carnevalism and the way how writers deform reality, which also includes using of folk stories, myths and legends. Out thesis provides a short introduction to history of modern Chinese literature and Mo Yan's life and work as well. In practical part of our thesis, we compare the typical features of magical realism introduced in the theoretical part to the characteristic features of the novel Big Breasts & Wide Hips.
