The Correspondence between Ceres and Neptune. The Part of Letter Collection of Henricus de Isernia.

Abstract:

Předkládaná disertační práce se zabývá dosud nepublikovaným samostatným tematickým celkem epistolární formulářové sbírky Jindřicha z Isernie – korespondencí mezi Cererou a Neptunem. Hlavním cílem práce bylo vytvořit kritickou edici této série osmi listů, které zachycují rétorický spor dvojice antických božstev. Ve studii, která edici předchází, předkládáme životopis Jindřicha z Isernie, jenž je sestaven i na základě nepublikovaných pramenů, a věnujeme se otázce Jindřichovy možné totožnosti se stejnojmenným protonotářem české královské kanceláře a Jindřichem Vlachem. Dále se zaměřujeme na samotnou korespondenci: představujeme některé zajímavé aspekty tohoto mnohovrstevnatého textu a jeho základní stylistickou analýzu. Obsah listů interpretujeme v kontextu dalšího Iserňanova díla a jeho učitelské praxe. Součástí práce je rovněž český překlad všech osmi listů korespondence.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the yet unpublished independent part of the letter collection of Henricus de Isernia – the correspondence between Ceres and Neptune. The main aim is to prepare a critical edition of this series of eight letters, which represent a rhetorical lawsuit of these two ancient gods. The study brings a biography of Henricus de Isernia, which is also based on unpublished sources, and discuss the question of his possible identity with Henricus, the protonotary of the royal chancery, and Henricus Italicus. Then the thesis focuses on the correspondence: some interesting aspects of this multi-layered text and its basic stylistic analysis are presented; the content of the letters is interpreted into the context of Henricus’ other works and his teaching praxis at the notary school. The Czech translation of all eight letters is also a part of the thesis.
