Concept of time in selected anglophone poetry

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá konceptem času v literatuře a poezii se zohledněním jeho historického, kulturního, filozofického a literárního kontextu. Práce je rozdělena do čtyř částí, přičemž první a druhá část prozkoumává starověké názory na čas a jejich následné rozvoje osvícenskými filozofy. Toto zdůrazní, jak bylo naše pochopení času ovlivněno historickými, kulturními a náboženskými faktory. Třetí a čtvrtá část práce se zabývá tím, jak subjektivní zkušenost času je rozvíjena a zobrazována v literatuře a poezii. Dále tato práce analyzuje významná díla prominentních básníků, jako jsou John Milton, William Cullen Bryant, Percy Bysshe Shelley a Sylvia Plath, aby bylo získáno porozumění, jiejich přístupu k vizualizaci času a jak jejich osobní zážitky a názory ovlivnili jejich pohled na toto téma.

Abstract:

This thesis examines the concept of time in literature and poetry, considering its historical, cultural, philosophical, and literary contexts. The thesis is divided into four parts, with the first two parts exploring the ancient views of time and the subsequent developments by Enlightenment philosophers. This highlights how our understanding of time has been shaped by historical, cultural, and belief factors. The third and fourth parts of the thesis delve into how the subjective experience of time is developed and depicted in literature and poetry, respectively. Notably, the works of prominent poets such as John Milton, William Cullen Bryant, Percy Bysshe Shelley, and Sylvia Plath are analyzed to gain insight into how they approached and visualized time, and how their personal experiences and worldview may have influenced their portrayal of this theme.
