Word order of 'se' in the finite verb phrase in Sykora's translation of the Gospel of Matthew

Abstract:

V práci jsou shrnuty výsledky výzkumu slovosledných vlastností reflexivního klitika se ve frázi verba finita v prvním vydání českého překladu Matoušova evangelia J. L. Sýkory (1909), který podle současné literatury představuje nový překlad biblického textu. Tyto výsledky jsou srovnávány se staršími překlady Matoušova evangelia (BiblOl a BiblKral) a je tak v práci nastíněn vývoj slovosledu reflexivního klitika se ve frázi VF v rámci těchto tří biblických překladů. Práce navazuje na dlouhodobý výzkum vývoje slovosledu českých pronominálních (en)klitik.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis contains the analysis of word order of Czech pronominal reflexive clitic se dependent on VF (finte verb) in the Czech translation of The Gospel of Matthew edited by Jan Ladislav Sýkora in 1909. Sýkora's translation is treated as the first modern translation of the New Testament. We focus especially on the phenomenon of cooperation(/competition) of the post-inicial and contact word order which disappeared in the beginning of the 20th century in favour of the post-inicial position. We compare our data with previous research focused on the oldest complete Czech translation of the Bible (The Bible of Olomouc) and on the Bible of Kralice. This thesis is a part of long-term research of the word order of Czech pronominal (en)clitics, which nowadays focuses on the material of representative parts of Old Czech and Middle Czech bibles.
