The impact of the parasitic load of horses on the overall infectivity of the pasture

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce bylo provedení laboratorních vyšetření a statistické analýzy. Následně byl vyhodnocen dopad parazitární míry koní na celkovou infekčnost pastvin. Malí strongylidé zastupují jednu z největších skupin parazitů ovlivňujících zdravotní stav a kondici koní. Problematika těchto hlístic je vysoká rezistence na anthelmintika a malá pozornost věnována infekčnosti pastvin. Larvy strongylidních hlístic se vyvíjejí na pastvinách za pomoci vhodných vnějších podmínek. Z tohoto důvodu je třeba předcházet nadměrnému znečištění pastvin, které je v dnešní době opomíjené. Pro tuto studii byly vybrány tři chovy koní s jejich rozdílným pracovním využitím a odlišným managementem pastvin. Každá stáj se nacházela v jiném kraji s rozdílnými vnějšími podmínkami. Koprologické vyšetření bylo prováděno v období od března 2021 do března 2022, celkem u 12 koní, taktéž odběr porostu z pastvin jednotlivých chovů. Všechna vyšetření se uskutečnila v parazitologické laboratoři FAPPZ ČZU v Praze. Celkem bylo vyšetřeno 156 vzorků výkalů, ve kterých byla determinována vajíčka strongylidních hlístic a larvy v infekčním stádiu získány z vyšetření pastvin. Následně byla vyhodnocena klimatická data a výsledky výše uvedených vyšetření. Na základě těchto dat a výsledků vyšetření byla vyhodnocena sezónní dynamika vylučovaných vajíček a sezónní dynamika infekčních L3 larev. Výsledky naznačily, že vliv klimatických podmínek je zásadní pro vývoj infekčních larev, ale i management pastvy a stav porostu mají značný dopad na infekčnost pastvin. Také špatná úprava pastvin, nedostatečný nebo špatně zvolený antiparazitární program či nedostatek porostu jsou hlavními faktory, které ovlivňují přežití a přítomnosti larev na pastvině, a tak i vajíček. Vzhledem k současnému a často nesprávnému využití anthelmintik, a následné jejich vysoké rezistenci, je nutno správným managementem pastvy omezit znečištění pastvin strongylidními hlísticemi.

Abstract:

The aim of the bachelor thesis is laboratory coprology and vegetation examination and statistics analysis. Subsequently, the impact od the parasitic load of horses on the overall infectivity of the pasture was analysed. Small strongylinaes represent one of the biggest groups of parasites having influence on horse health and their physical condition. The issue of helmints is their high resistance to anthelmintics and small attention to pasture infection. Strongylinae helmint larvaes in their making stadium are present on pastures thanks to fitting enviromental conditions. That is why it is very necessary to avoid overpollution of pastures being neglected in our time. For the purpose of this work three horse breedings with different utilisation and with different pasture management were chosen. Each horse breeding was situated in other region with different environment. Coprological examination was conducted to 12 horses from March 2021 to March 2022 and growth samples from every single breeding pasture were taken as well. All examination were realised in the parasitological laboratory FAPPZ ČZU in Prague (Faculty of Agrobiology, Food and Natural Resources, Czech University of Life Science Prague). There were examinated 156 excrement samples there and strongylinae helmints and larvaes in infect stadium were determined from examined pastures. Subsequently, the climate data and results of coprological and vegetation examination mentioned above were evaluated. On the basis of laboratory figures we specified the seasonal dynamics of excreted eggs and the seasonal dynamics of infect L3 larvae. Results of examination indicate that the influence of climate condition on infect larvaes in making is effectual as well as pasture management and growth condition have considerable impact on pasture infection. The wrong pasture making, inadequate or faulty antiparasitical programme and growth deficiency are main causes of larvaes habitation and survival in pastures, too. Considering that the increasing resistance is the result of today`s incorrect application of anthelmintics it is necessary to reduce pasture overpollution with strongylinaes helmints through the correct pasture management.
