Pathogenic enterobacteria and their laboratory diagnostics

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou vybraných patogenů gastrointestinálního traktu a jejich laboratorní diagnostikou ve FN Plzeň. Je rozdělena na dvě části, teoretickou a praktickou. V teoretické části jsou po seznámení s obecnými vlastnostmi enterobakterií zmíněny epidemiologicky nejznámější druhy. U jednotlivých druhů je popsána morfologie, kultivace a biochemické vlastnosti, patogeneze, vyvolané infekce a terapie. Poslední kapitolu teoretické části představuje laboratorní diagnostika, ve které jsou zmíněny všechny možné metody, které lze provádět k identifikaci enterobakterií. Praktická část se zabývá laboratorní diagnostikou enterobakterií ve FN Plzeň, analýzou a interpretací výsledků. Pro interpretaci výsledků byl použit sběr dat za období 2020 až 2023 z Ústavu mikrobiologie FN Plzeň. Výsledná data z Laboratorního informačního systému jsou zhodnocena. Bylo zjištěno, že nejvíce z čeledi enterobakterií vyvolávaly střevní infekce salmonely, a to až z 89 %.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the issue of selected pathogens of the gastrointestinal tract and their laboratory diagnostics in the University Hospital in Pilsen. It is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part, the most epidemiologically well-known species are mentioned after introducing the general characteristics of enterobacteria. The morphology, cultivation and biochemical properties, pathogenesis, induced infections and therapies are described for each species. The last chapter of the theoretical part is laboratory diagnostics, in which all possible methods that can be performed to identify individual Enterobacteriaceae are mentioned. The practical part deals with the laboratory diagnostics of enterobacteria at the University Hospital in Pilsen, analysis and interpretation of results. For the interpretation of the results, data collection for the period 2020 to 2023 from the Institute of Microbiology of the Pilsen University Hospital was used. The resulting data from the Laboratory Information System are evaluated. It was found that Salmonella was the most frequent enterobacteria causing intestinal infections, accounting for 89 %.
