The condition of being writers and mothers between the end of the 19th Century and the beginning of the 20th Century: the cases of Sibilla Aleramo and Lalla Romano

Abstract:

This study deals with the production of europeans writers, especially in England and Italy, about their beginning in the literature field and about change of their role in the society. The aim of this work was to show how women in the nineteenth century were able to take care about their family devoting themselves to literature. I focused my interessed on Sibilla Aleramo, Italian writer from the end of the nineteenth century, who had to decide between her son and literature, which had won because she feld that the pain from being discriminated was stronger then the lost of her son. This hers feelings are shown in her book “Una donna”. I compared Sibilla Aleramo with Lalla Romano, autor which had devoted her life to the art and together with that she had educated her son, about whom she wrote her famous book “Le parole tra noi leggere”.

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá tvorbou evropských spisovatelek, zejména v Anglii a Itálii, jejich počátky na literárním poli a změnou jejich postavení ve společnosti. Cílem této práce bylo ukázat jak ženy již v 19. století byly schopny starat se o rodinu a zároveň se věnovat literatuře. Zejména jsem se zaměřila na italskou autorku konce 19. století Sibillu Aleramo, která se bohužel musela rozhodnout mezi synem a literaturou, pro kterou se nakonec rozhodla, protože cítila, že bolest z toho, že její důstojnost je utlačována je mnohem větší než ztráta vlastního syna. Tyto své pocity vyjádřila v knize „Una donna”. Jakou druhou autorku jsem si vybrala Lalla Romano, která se celý život věnovala literatuře a umění obecně a přitom vychovávala jediného syna o kterém napsala svoji nejoceňovanější knihu: „Le parole tra noi leggere“.
