Division of German Dialects on the Basis of Phonological and Morphological Criteria

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the description and classification of German dialects on the basis of phonological and morphological criteria; the dialects are divided into three main parts: Upper, Central and Low. The criterion for this division is the Second Sound Shift; however, other sound shifts are also taken into consideration. The description of individual dialects is focused on vowel and consonantal shifts, though morphological changes are also considered important (e.g. diminutive suffix, endings of verbs in present pl.). Isoglosses of the individual characteristics do not always create a decisive boundary between the dialects; therefore more opinions of different German dialectologist are mentioned.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce popisuje a rozděluje německé dialekty na základě fonetických a morfologických kritérií na tři velké celky: horní němčinu, střední němčinu a dolní němčinu. Hlavní kritérium pro toto rozdělení představuje druhé německé posunutí, ale zohledněny jsou i další hláskové změny. Popis jednotlivých dialektů se zaměřuje na změny vokálů a konsonantů, ale důležitým faktorem jsou i morfologické znaky (např. deminutivní sufixy, či koncovky sloves časovaných v préz. pl.). Izoglosy jednotlivých znaků však ne vždy tvoří jednoznačnou hranici mezi dialekty, proto jsou ve sporných případech zohledněny názory několika předních dialektologů.
