Regional Development in the Context of the COVID-19 Crisis: A Case Study of the Kyrgyz Republic

Abstract:

In the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, the analysis of the regional development of the Kyrgyz Republic is the primary subject of the bachelor's thesis. As part of his investigation into the worldwide implications of COVID-19, the author investigates both the positive and negative aspects of the virus. Furthermore, the author will perform a qualitative study of a number of empirical studies in order to demonstrate the influence that COVID-19 has had on areas as well as the worldwide policies that have been enacted in order to address it. The author goes into the regional growth of the Kyrgyz Republic in the empirical part, providing an outline of the economic activities that contribute to the national GDP in various areas of the country. In spite of this, the major emphasis for comparison is on two particular regions: Osh and Bishkek. The purpose of this comparison is to evaluate the economic repercussions that occurred during and after the COVID-19 lockdowns, especially in the year 2021, with the intention of emphasizing the rate of recovery based on economic activity. Within the scope of this research, many variables, such as registered businesses, contributions to the national GDP, active workforce, unemployment rates, and self-employment, are subjected to a comprehensive examination. The analysis covers the years 2019, 2020, and 2021 in length. The rates of urbanization, mortality, and income differences in comparison to the national average are also taken into consideration.
