View of Foreign Cultures in German Literature shown on the Novel by Aglaja Veteranyi: "Why a child is cooked in Polenta"

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on description of foreign cultures in German literature and this theme is described on the novel ?Warum das Kind in Polenta kocht? written by Aglaja Vereranyi. Due to political reasons was Author?s family forced to left Romania and begin a new life in Switzerland. Individual characters have got problem with orientation in new situations and they are yielding to feelings of dispossession and deprival their national identity. This feeling originate mainly from fact, that the family has very separative life thanks to their weak language skill, fear of pursuit by the Romanian secret service and work in circus and rarely seeks for new social contacts. Elements of Romanian culture and its expression in different culture area are analyzed by theoretically worked scientific findings.

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá vyobrazením cizích kultur v německé literatuře a tato problematika je představena na příkladu díla ?Warum das Kind in Polenta kocht? od Aglaji Veteranyi. Autorčina rodina byla z politických důvod nucena opustit Rumunsko a začít nový život ve Švýcarsku. Jednotlivé postavy mají problém se nových situacích zorientovat a propadají pocitu vykořenění a ztráty nacionální identity. Tento pocit pramení především ze skutečnosti, že rodina žije kvůli nedostatečným jazykovým schopnostem, strachu z pronásledování příslušníky rumunské tajné policie a práci v cirkusu velmi izolovaně a jen zřídkakdy navazuje nové sociální kontakty. Prvky rumunské kultury a její projevy v odlišném kulturním prostředí jsou analyzovány na základě teoreticky zpracovaných vědeckých poznatků.
