The shifting in form and content of Czech TV Brno news: comparative content analysis

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá formální a obsahovou proměnou regionálního zpravodajství České, respektive Československé, televize Brno za posledních 24 let. Autorka sledovala celkem 545 reportáží vyrobených redakcí zpravodajství České televize Brno v letech 1987, 1990, 1995, 2003 a 2011. Výzkum byl proveden obsahovou analýzou a doplněn o sémiotickou analýzu reportáží agendy1. máj. Z formálního hlediska došlo k prodloužení délky reportáží, k nárůstu negativity a personalizace reportáží. Z pohledu obsahu se výrazně proměnila tematická skladba vysílání. Regionální zpravodajství ČT Brno se s postupem času politizuje a je tematicky pestřejší. Na konci 80. let bylo zpravodajství silně ovlivněno kontextem doby a propagací tehdejší dominantní ideologie. V polovině 90. let je zpravodajství naopak ovlivněno transformací a v současné době se regionální zpravodajství snaží být objektivní a vyvážené, současně ale narůstá bulvarizace zpravodajství.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with the shifting in the form and content of regional news of the Czech, or Czechoslovak TV Brno in the last 25 years. The author watched altogether 545 news stories made in the Czech TV Brno news department in the years 1987, 1990, 1995, 2003 and 2011. The research has been performed in the means of content analysis and supplied with a semiotic analysis of the May 1st agenda stories. From the formal point of view, the stories have extended, become more negative and personalized. From the contentual point of view, the structure of news topics has shifted a lot. The regional news of Czech TV Brno has become more political and covers a wider scale of topics. At the end of the 1980's, the news cast was strongly influenced by the context of its time and propaganda of current dominant ideology. In the mid-90's, news was, on the other hand, influenced by transformation. Currently, it attempts to become impartial and balanced. At the same time, however, the tabloid nature of news is becoming stronger.
