Contemporary forms of curatorial practice

Abstract:

Ve své práci se zabývám historickým a politickým kontextem vzniku muzejních institucí, který slouží jako širší rámec pro porozumění specifickým okolností při vzniku a vývoji kurátorské praxe. V dalších kapitolách se věnuji vybraným institucionálním, vztahovým a praktickým kontextům kurátorství. Zdůrazňuji činnost průkopníků v oboru v kontextu dobových názorů a přístupů, na poli uměnovědné teorie, praktických oborů a společenské a kulturní atmosféry ve společnosti 60. a 70. let 20. století. Zabývám se vývojem a proměnou diskursu, spojeného s postavením kurátora v rámci instituce a v rámci jeho aktivit na poli umělecké produkce, prezentace a trhu Uvádím přehled vzdělávacích institucí a organizací, které nabízejí profesní vzdělávání v oboru kurátorství. V poslední kapitole se zaměřuji na reflexi vlastních zkušeností z kurátorskou činností v alternativním výstavním prostoru, která na případech konkrétních realizací výstav ukazuje některé strategické přístupy a podoby spolupráce, které mohou v rámci vztahu mezi kurátorem a umělcem při společné přípravě výstavy vzniknout.

Abstract:

In my work, I concern myself with historical and political context of the birth of museum institution, which serves as a broader framework for comprehesion the specific circumstances about the birth and development of curatorial praxis. In following chapters I am intrested in particular institutional, relational and practical aspects of curatorship. I lay stress on the activities of curator pioneers, in context of period- based attitudes and notions, on the field of art theory, practical subjects and social and culture atmosphere in the 60th and 70th. I also concern myself with the shifting discourse, in relation to the curator´s position inside an institution and in the framework of his/ hers activities in arts production, presentation and art market. I put a list of educational institutions and organisations, which offer professional training in the curatorial field. In the last chapter I concern myself with the reflection of my own experiences with curatorial work in alternative exhibition space, which shows some strategic attitudes and form of colaboration on particular cases of exhibition realisation, which can arise from the cooperation between curator and artist.
