Use of electronic cigarettes among residents in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je pokračováním bakalářské práce, která se věnovala vlivům elektronických cigaret na zdraví uživatelů. Ve své teoretické části shrnuje dosavadní poznatky o elektronických cigaretách. Zabývá se historií elektronické cigarety a popisuje, z čeho se e-cigareta skládá. Dále vysvětluje, co je to e-liquid, shrnuje vliv elektronických cigaret na zdraví a srovnává e-cigarety s klasickými cigaretami a s výrobky na bázi zahřívaného tabáku (HTP). V praktické části byla pomocí dotazníku sbírána data, která mají za úkol přiblížit preference českých uživatelů elektronických cigaret. Celkem odpovědělo 106 respondentů. Výsledky byly popsány a srovnány s výsledky výzkumů a studií proběhlých v zahraničí. Nejvíce uživatelů spadá do věkových skupin 18-24 let a 25-39 let a používá e-cigaretu denně po dobu 1-3 let. Nejoblíbenějším typem elektronické cigarety je zařízení typu MOD/Grip. Dotazovaní nejčastěji volí ovocné náplně s 1-6 mg/ml nikotinu. Většina uživatelů se setkala s hořkou, spálenou chutí (dry hitem) v ústech při užívání e-cigaret. Pouze 13 % respondentů současně kouří i klasické cigarety. Respondenti rovněž zastávají názor, že elektronické cigarety jsou méně škodlivé než klasické cigarety.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis is a sequel of an earlier bachelor thesis that dealt with the impact of e-cigarettes on users´ health. The theoretical basis of master's thesis summarizes existing knowledge about e-cigarettes. The work concerns itself with the history of e-cigarettes and describes composition of electronic cigarettes. There is also clarification of e-liquid. The following chapters depict a harmful influence on health. The first part ends with comparison of e-cigarettes to regular cigarettes and with heated tobacco products. In the empirical part there are data which were collected using questionnaire. They outline The Czech users' preferences. 106 respondents took part in the survey. These results were described and compared with results of research and studies in abroad. The most users fall into age group 18-24. People between the ages of 25 and 39 use e-cigarettes every day since 1 to 3 years. The most favourite type of e-cigarette is MOD /Grip. The respondents very often choose fruit flavour with 1-6 mg/ml nicotine. Majority of users have experience with dry hit in their oral cavity which is related to using e-cigarettes. Only 13 % of respondents smoke e-cigarettes along with combustible cigarettes. The respondents are also convinced that e-cigarettes are less harmful than combustible cigarettes.
