Hyperinflation in Argentina between 1988-1990 and anti-inflationary policy of Carlos Menem’s government

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je zhodnotit opatření přijatá za vlády Carlose Menema, která vedla k zastavení hyperinflace v Argentině. První kapitola obsahuje teoretické vymezení inflace a hyperinflace, převážně se však zabývá příčinami jejího vzniku a možnostmi řešení. Druhá kapitola mapuje vývoj inflace v Argentině od dob vlády prezidenta J. Peróna do nástupu prezidenta C. Menema. Třetí kapitola se zabývá, jak prvními pokusy Menemovy vlády o zastavení hyperinflace, tak plánu Konvertibility přijatém v roce 1991, kterému je věnována převážná část této kapitoly.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the measures taken by Carlos Menem’s government, which stopped hyperinflation in Argentina. The first chapter contains a theoretical framework of inflation and hyperinflation, but mainly deals with the causes of hyperinflation and its possible solutions. The second chapter is dedicated to the development of inflation in Argentina from from the government of the president J. Perón to until the government of C. Menem took office. The third chapter deals with both the first attempts of the Menem’s administration to stop hyperinflation and the Convertibility Plan adopted in 1991, to which most of this chapter is devoted.
