The Quality of Life of Breast Cancer Patients

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem bakalářské práce bylo zjistit kvalitu života pacientek s rakovinou prsu v probíhající léčbě. Dále pak zjistit, jak je celková kvalita života vnímána pacientkami různých věkových kategorií, jak ženy s karcinomem prsu vnímají svůj tělesný vzhled a jak zatěžují vedlejší účinky systémové léčby pacientky. Metodika: Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 64 pacientek s karcinomem prsu, u kterých probíhala léčba, a to od roku 2012 až do roku 2017, ve věkovém rozmezí 28-77 let. Šetření probíhalo v období od listopadu 2017 do ledna 2018 pomocí standardizovaného dotazníku pro hodnocení kvality života pacientů s nádorovým onemocněním EORTC QLQ-C30 a jeho modulu EORTC QLQ-BR23. Tyto dotazníky byly doplněny o sociodemografické údaje, anamnestická data pacientek a informace o způsobu léčby dotazovaných žen. Výsledky: Výzkumným šetřením bylo zjištěno, že nejvíce zatěžující oblastí je pro pacientky oblast sociální, pak se nejvíce ženy obávají z budoucnosti. Nejvíce zatěžujícím symptomem byla nespavost, a dále si pacientky stěžovaly na příznaky na paži. Ženy s rostoucím věkem vnímaly svůj vzhled i celkovou kvalitu života lépe. Vedlejší účinky systémové léčby byly horší u pacientek mladších věkových kategoriích, z nichž nejvýraznějším problémem byly návaly horka. Závěr: Na závěr je nutné zdůraznit důležitost mamárního screeningu, neboť ranná stadia karcinomu prsu mají lepší prognózu a jejich léčba je pro pacientky méně náročná. Z práce vyplývá, že mladé ženy s karcinomem prsu vnímají hůře kvalitu života v průběhu léčby i po ní. Proto je cílem preventivního programu záchyt časných stadií nádorového onemocnění prsu a tím vyšší šance na kvalitní život.

Abstract:

Goal: The aim of the bachelor thesis was to assess the quality of life of breast cancer patients undergoing their treatments. Also, to find out how the overall quality of life is perceived by patients of different age categories, how their physical appearance is perceived, and how the systemic treatment side effects' strains are affecting the patients. Methodology: The research group consisted of 64 female breast cancer patients undergoing treatment from 2012 to 2017, aged 28-77 years. The survey was conducted between November 2017 and January 2018 using standardized questionnaire for assessing the quality of life of patients with cancer EORTC QLQ-C30, and its module EORTC QLQ-BR23. These questionnaires were complemented with socio-demographic data, patients' anamnestic data, and information on the treatment of the women interviewed. Results: The research has shown that the most affected area of the patients' life was the social, second most affected was fear of the future. The most straining symptom was insomnia, and women complained about symptoms on their arm. Women with increasing age perceived their appearance and overall quality of life better. The side effects of systemic treatment were worse in younger age groups, from which the most significant problems were hot flashes. Conclusion: In conclusion, it is essential to emphasize the importance of mammary screening as the early stages of breast cancer have a better prognosis and the treatment is less demanding for the patients. The thesis implies that young women with breast cancer perceive the quality of their lives worse both during and after treatment. Therefore, the goal of the preventative program is to seize early stages of breast cancer and increase the chance of a quality life.
