Abstract:

Tato Ph.D. práce se zabývá vývojem a charakterizací nanostrukturovaných povlaků obsahujících W, B a C. Cílem práce je magnetronové nanášení tvrdých povlaků, které vykazují i tažné chování. Povlaky byly naneseny rozprašováním buď elementárních nebo složených terčů na HSS a WC-Co substráty. Byla provedena spektroskopická analýza jako EDS, RBS, XRD, XPS a Ramanova spektroskopie, aby se prozkoumalo chemické složení a struktura povlaků. Pro mikrostrukturální a morfologickou analýzu byly použity SEM, TEM, AFM a konfokální laserový mikroskop. Hlavní pozornost byla věnována charakterizaci mechanických vlastností a lomové odolnosti pomocí tribometrů, testu dynamického otěru a nanoindentačních testů. Dále byly provedeny ab initio simulace ke studiu chemické povahy povlaků. Struktura, mikrostruktura, mechanické a tribologické vlastnosti povlaků byly studovány jako funkce chemického složení, energetického toku, teploty substrátu a elektrického předpětí přiloženého na substrát. Povlaky W-B-C byly nanášeny s různými poměry C/W a B/W, při odlišném obsahu W a při různém předpětí. Struktura povlaku byla většinou kvazi-amorfní, někdy však byla pozorována nanokompozitní nebo nanokrystalická struktura. Kromě chemického složení také množství energie dodané do rostoucího povlaku významně ovlivnilo jeho mikrostrukturu. Předpětí na substrátech významně podporovalo krystalinitu a také ovlivňovalo zbytková napětí povlaků. Chování CoF a opotřebení povlaků bylo závislé na atomovém složení. Většina povlaků WBC v této práci byla tvrdá (H~20-30 GPa). Zlepšení lomové odolnosti ve srovnání s průmyslovými tvrdými povlaky (TiB2 a TiAlN) bylo potvrzeno vtiskovými zkouškami. Bylo zjištěno, že povlak WBC má značný potenciál jako ochranná vrstva pro nástroje v obráběcím průmyslu. Nicméně, více úsilí je nutné vynaložit k rozšíření uváděných výsledků pro další aplikace. Práce je sestavena z příspěvků publikovaných v recenzovaných časopisech, kde autor výrazně přispěl. Ke každému příspěvku je uvedena motivace a současný stav poznání, následuje detailní popis použitých metod a uvedení hlavních výsledků.

Abstract:

This Ph.D. thesis addresses the experimental deposition and characterization of nanostructured W-B-C coatings. The aim is to deposit magnetron sputtered hard coatings which exhibit ductile behavior. The coatings were deposited either by sputtering of a compound or several elemental targets on the HSS and WC-Co substrates. After deposition, the analysis such as EDS, RBS, XRD, XPS, and Raman spectroscopy was conducted to investigate the chemical composition and structure of the coatings. The microscopical characterization was conducted using SEM, TEM, AFM and confocal laser microscope for microstructural and morphological analysis. The major consideration was given to the characterization of mechanical properties and fracture resistance using microscratch, tribometer, dynamic impact, and nanoindentation tests. Additionally, ab initio simulations were conducted to study the chemical nature of the coatings. The structure, microstructure, mechanical and tribological properties of the coatings were studied as a function of chemical composition, energy flux, substrate temperature, and bias voltages. W-B-C coatings were deposited based on different C/W and B/W ratios as well as different W content and bias voltages. The structure of the coating was mostly quasi-amorphous, however sometimes nanocomposite or nanocrystalline structure was observed. Despite the chemical composition, the amount of energy delivered to the growing coating significantly affected the microstructure. Substrate bias voltage notably promoted crystallinity and altered the residual stress. The CoF and wear behavior of the coatings were dependant on the atomic composition. The majority of the W-B-C coatings in this thesis were hard (H~20-30 GPa), while a remarkable enhancement in ductility, compared to industrial hard coatings (TiB2 and TiAlN), was confirmed. According to their fracture-resistance behavior, the W-B-C coatings were found to have substantial potential in tooling and machining industries. Nevertheless, more effort is needed to extend the reported results for industrial applications. The thesis is prepared with compiling the papers published in peer-reviewed journals, where the author made a significant contribution. For each publication, the motivation and state-of-the-art were introduced and a more detailed description of methodology was given, then major findings were highlighted.
