Bioactive phosphate glasses

Abstract:

V této bakalářské práci byla připravena a následně studována skla systému xTiO2 - (25-x)CaO - 25ZnO - 50P2O5, kde x = 0, 1, 5 a 10. Celkem byly připraveny 4 vzorky skel. Všechna připravená skla byla homogenní a jejich zbarvení záviselo na použitém množství přechodného kovu, titanu. Tato skla byla pro studium zvolena z hlediska potenciálního použití jako biokompatibilní materiály. Připravené vzorky byly popsány pomocí měrné hmotnosti, molárního objemu, povrchové energie. Dále byla zjištěna teplota skelné transformace, teplota měknutí a koeficient teplotní roztažnosti. Struktura připravených skel byla studována pomocí Ramanovy spektroskopie a nukleární magnetické rezonance (31P MAS NMR). Kvalita povrchu studovaných skel byla vyhodnocena pomocí měření kontaktních úhlů a výpočtu povrchové energie. Pozornost byla také věnována studiu degradace připravených skel ve vodném prostředí, protože se jedná o důležitou vlastnost při medicínském využití. Závislost měrné hmotnosti, molárního objemu, koeficientu teplotní roztažnosti, teploty skelné transformace a teploty měknutí na obsahu oxidu titaničitého, ukázaly, že záměna oxidu vápenatého za oxid titaničitý vede ke zvýšení kompaktnosti a pevnosti struktury studovaných skel. Ramanova spektroskopie a nukleární magnetická rezonance ukázaly, že záměna dvoumocného vápníku čtyřmocným titanem způsobuje změnu ve struktuře skel, došlo k většímu zesíťování a tedy zpevňování struktury, což se projevilo výrazně na snížení rozpustnosti. Naměřené a vyhodnocené kontaktní úhly prokázaly, že povrch fosforečnanových skel je polární a tedy dobře smáčivý a hydrofilní, přičemž tyto vlastnosti nejsou významně ovlivňovány zvyšující se koncentrací titanu. Na závěr byla otestována i možnost přípravy vrstvy z připraveného skla na titanový podklad. Výsledkem byla sklokeramická vrstva, která byla charakterizována pomocí rentgenové strukturní analýzy (XRD) a optické mikroskopie. Bylo zjištěno, že krystalickou fázi tvoří difosforečnan titaničitý.

Abstract:

In this bachelor thesis, glasses of xTiO2 - (25-x)CaO - 25ZnO - 50P2O5 system, where x = 0, 1, 5, and 10, were prepared and studied. Four samples of glasses were prepared, all of which were homogenous. Color of the glasses depended on the amount of the transition metal, titanium. These glasses were selected for their potential usage as a protective material. Prepared samples were described using density, molar volume, and surface energy. Furthermore, glass transition temperature, softening temperature, and coefficient of thermal expansion were determined. Glass structure was examined using Raman spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance (31P MAS NMR). The quality of the surface of glasses was evaluated using measurement of contact angles. Being a significant property in medical use, attention was also devoted to the study of the glasses degradation in an aqueous medium. Density, molar volume, glass transition temperature, softening temperature, and coefficient of thermal expansion dependence on the titanium dioxide content showed that calcium oxide replacement for titanium dioxide leads to higher compactness and strengthtening of the glasses structures. Raman spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance showed that divalent calcium replacement for titanium tetravalent causes change in the glass structure. Measured and evaluated contact angles proved that the surface of phosphate based glasses is polar and therefore well wettable and hydrophilic, while none of these properties are significantly influenced by increasing concentration of titanium. Finally, the possibility of preparation of the glasses layer on the titanium substrate was investigated. Resulted glass ceramic layer was described using x-ray structural analysis (XRD) and optical microscopy. The crystalline phase has been found to be titanium diphosphate.
