Prenatal diagnostic - sociological perspective

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá prenatální diagnostikou, která se ve vyspělých západních společnostech stala samozřejmou součástí péče o těhotné ženy, a na kterou existuje množství protichůdných pohledů. Jedná se o téma, které ve svých důsledcích souvisí s mnohými dalšími tématy, která jsou v sociálních vědách opakovaně reflektována. Jedná se například o pohledy na umělé přerušení těhotenství obecně, právo na kontrolu vlastní plodnosti, které ženám s rozvojem moderní antikoncepce dává větší svobodu v rozhodování, stigmatizaci a vyloučení lidí, kteří se nějakým způsobem odlišují či roli lékaře obecně. Prenatální testování následně přináší posun v těchto tématech a vytváří také nové nutnosti, které se předtím neobjevovaly. Tady se jedná hlavně o nutnost rozhodování se, co nastávající rodiče udělají, pokud některý z testů vyjde pozitivně a tím se u plodu potvrdí výskyt určitého onemocnění. I když by se prenatální testování mělo dotýkat především budoucích rodičů, nelze zde opomíjet ani politické a ekonomické vlivy. Cílem diplomové práce bylo popsat, jak toto testování v České republice probíhá a co vše sebou tyto nové genetické metody přinášejí. Kromě využití relevantní literatury je práce doplněna i rozhovory jak s ženami, které mají s prenatální diagnostikou osobní zkušenosti (první testy nebyly v normě), tak s lékaři jakožto odborníky na danou problematiku. Práce obsahuje 152 975 znaků s mezerami (23 286 slov).

Abstract:

This thesis deals with prenatal diagnosis. Prenatal diagnosis in advanced Western societies has become a natural part of the care of pregnant women and there is many of conflicting views. It is a theme which in its consequences linked with many other ideas.Ideas that are in the social sciences have repeatedly stressed. These include views of abortion in general. The right to control their own fertility that women with the development of modern contraception gives greater freedom in decision making. Stigmatization and exclusion of people who are somehow different or the role of doctors in general. Prenatal testing subsequently brings about a shift on such issues, but also creates a new need, which did not occur previously . In particular, the need for future parents to decide what they will do if the tests confirm the possibility of a fetal disease. Although prenatal testing should be touching mainly the future parents can not be ignored as nor political and economic influences. The aim of my thesis was to describe how prenatal testing done in the Czech Republic and what these new genetic methods generally provide. In addition to the relevant literature, I in my dissertation used interviews with women who have prenatal diagnosis with their personal experiences (their first genetic tests were not in the standard), and interviews with doctors as experts on this issue. The work contains 152 975 characters with spaces (23 286 words).
