Marathon run as a means of public diplomacy of the city

Abstract:

Moje bakalářská práce se zaměřuhe na maratosnký běh jako nástroj veřejné dilomacie města, jak můžeme vnímat veřejnou diplomacii in dnešních dnech a jak můžeme použít maratohnský běh jako moderní pojetí veřejné diplomacie. Teoretické část bakalářské práce se zabývá historií diplomacie, zejména veřejnou diplomacií. Důležitou součástí teoretické části je branding. Snažím se ukázat město jako značku a jak ji vytvořit. V praktické části je snažím analyzovat pět maratonských běhů pomocí zvolených kriterií. Zaměřuji se, jak města pomáhají s organizací maratonských běhů, a jak maratonské běhy ovlivňují turistický ruch města. Města většinou kooperují se soukromými firmami, které maratonské běhy organizují. V závěru mého výzkumu maratonských běhů můžeme pozorovat vztahy mezi městem a samotným maratonem. Dále můžeme pozorovat míru zapojení města do organizace maratonu, zdali město tvoří pozitivní značku města. Veřejná diplomacie města pozitivně ovliňuje budování města jako značky.

Abstract:

My bachelor thesis is focused on Marathon run as a tool of public diplomacy, how we can see public diplomacy in these days and how we can use marathon run as modern meaning of public diplomacy. Theoretical part of bachelor thesis is about diplomacy in the history, especially how the public diplomacy changes. The important part of theoretical thesis is branding. I try to show that we can see the city as a brand, how to created and developed it as brand. In practical part I try to analyze five marathon runs by chosen criteria. I focus on cities how it helps with organize marathon runs, if cities participate on it and how the marathon run can affected tourism. Cities usually cooperative with private companies that organizes marathon run itself. The conclusion of my research summarize the relationship between city and marathon run. We can see the level of involvement during marathon run, if the city creates positive brand. It is very important to develop city as a brand and try to engage public to cooperate with cities. Public diplomacy city has positive effect on developing city brand.
